Quasimodo (from Latin, quasi modo) is a fictional character in the novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1831) by Victor Hugo. Quasimodo was born with ahunchback and feared by the townspeople as a sort of monster, but he finds sanctuary in an unlikely love that is fulfilled only in death. Quasimodo is the protagonist in the story that falls in love with La Esmeralda and tries to whatever he can to save her from being hanged. Personal History When Quasimodo was younger, he was found on he doorsteps of the Notre Dame Cathedral after Mass on by Archdeacon Claude Frollo. The Leading Role The main character, as it turns out, is not Quasimodo or Esmeralda, but Notre-Dame itself. Almost all of the major scenes in the novel, with a few exceptions (such as Pierre’s presence at the Bastille) take place at or in view of/reference to the great cathedral. Quasimodo is the protagonist of Disney 's 1996 animated feature film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
